Aside from directing you to Wiki-- which IS your friend, I promise--
R/Me gives you a variety of possible "roles" to play. Many R/Mes run missions and quests as interrupters: carry things like Savage Shot, Distracting Shot, and signets, which are cheap to carry and cast. These are useful in shutting down yer casters--and your peeps will thank you when you interrupt searing flames, or Kuunvang's skills at the end of factions.
The other choice that I really like is a conditions/degen ranger: use poison, burning arrow, screaming shot, etc... or other skills and preparations to cause bleeding and burning. Then combine this with Mesmer skills like Ineptitude (E), or Fragility, to add damage, and conjure phantasm for a good hex. This can be energy intensive if you spam it...but lots of fun, and a fast kill.
These are kinda general purpose, PvE ranger/mesmer combos.
Happy hunting!

Are wiki builds still as bad as they used to be? I stopped looking after they favored the E/W with nukes and I Will Avenge You! (omgwtf permanent +3 regen if enough allies are dead! HAX!)
You can use the build every R/Mo uses with Hax Breaker instead of Mending Touch.

I would say a good ranger/mesmer build is:
Poison Arrow
Kindle Arrows
Savage Shot
Distract Shot
Whirling Defense
Troll Unguent
Dodge
Rez
This seems like a good starter build for the rangers who want to get to know degen+damage rangers.

R/Me used to be a good combination for Black out but since that skill got beaten and nerfed to death, it's not really useful anymore. Why would you want to go R/Me anyway? Mending touch is the leet for rangers now.

Ranger mesmer is useful only for interrupts imo, and interrupt rangers will never become dated.

The r/me fevered dreams build from wiki is viable but you'll have problems pugging w/ it b/c it takes some coordination. I almost have better success using henches but it depends on the area that you're playing in.
Also solo trap builds based around r/me are super fun but a very high learning curve.
